Since the inception of the USA Fencing Sports Medicine Program Harmer has defined the program to include four pillars of Community Service, Clinical Practice, Research, and Professional Development. For over 25 years our volunteer sports medicine program has provided community service in the form of education and emergency care to the athletes, their friends/family, and USA Fencing staff.

USA Sports Medicine has an integrated, multidisciplinary team approach from doctors with different types of medical training. They see each patient from a different perspective and collaborate with one another to formulate a diagnosis. Once a diagnosis is confirmed, a collaborative treatment plan is developed for each individual patient.

The Annual Student Leadership Day, a free event for high school students to learn about the important role they can play in the lives of others, is sponsored by the University of Miami Sports Medicine Institute.
